BBA pumps out in force for Lincoln repair project

Repairs on a sewage system manhole in a Lincoln, Canterbury subdivision saw up to 11 BBA pumps from Prime Pump deployed at any one time. Hayden Powell from the Prime Pump team says while the project went very smoothly the area’s soil profile with its combination of gravels and sands make it one of the most challenging in the country.

To enable work to be carried out on the manhole, which is 5.5 metres into the ground, water had to be pumped away from the worksite. Water was then treated before the clean water was discharged into the stormwater system. Six-inch wellpoints were used with spears going down 6 metres. Pumps used during the project included: 1 BA180, 7 BA150s, 2 BA100s, and 1 BA 75 all from the Prime Pump hire pool.

The Netherlands designed and built BBA pumps come with impeccable credentials. With one third of their land below sea level, if there’s a country that knows about dewatering, it’s Holland. The BBA pumps are fully bunded making them suitable for use around waterways, with no possibility of fuel or oil entering the water flow. This has seen them deployed on some of the New Zealand’s most environmentally sensitive projects, including Moa Point Wellington and on the Queenstown lake front.
Exceptionally quiet-running, they consume significantly less than comparable pumps.

Prime Pump has over 200 BBA pumps working in civil, construction and mining around New Zealand.
