Prime Pump step into breach

Prime Pump step into the breach at damaged sewage plant.

When pumps sourced by the Christchurch City Council for use at the badly damaged Bromley sewage treatment plant were delayed at sea, Prime Pump stepped up.

Three Netherlands designed and manufactured 8” BBA BA180 and six BA150s were deployed to pump sewage through settlement pond aerators, and to provide essential back-up.

Exceptionally efficient and fully-bunded, BBA pumps had also previously been used on other high profile critical infrastructure projects including Wellington’s successful 2020 Moa Point sewer interceptor overpump. Prime Pump Sales Team Leader, Hayden Powell, said the BBA pumps are respected globally as well as being proven in New Zealand and they performed to a consistently high level until the council’s pumps arrived.

Prime Pump also supplied 300 metres of HDPE, and a 4,000 litre fuel tank which was plumbed into the pumps to keep them operating without the need to interrupt them for refuelling. Prime Pump staff visited every two days during the pumps’ seven weeks on site to check on operations.

Hayden said the City Council was very appreciative of Prime Pump’s work. “They were especially stoked at how fast we got the pumps there. Anything they asked for, we just jumped on and did it.”

Prime Pump had assisted earlier in the on-going major remediation project, partnering with another company to provide large generators to power the vital aerators, along with standbys. Once again, time was very tight, but the necessary power was onsite exactly as and when required.
