“Fantastic!” WANGEN hopper pump frees up WWTP staff.

Prime Pump’s German designed and manufactured KL-R 65 WANGEN hopper pump has helped the Manawatū Waste Water Treatment Plant leave transferring dewatered sludge by tractor and trailer behind them.

Instead the pump effortlessly moves sludge with 15%-16% dry solids a full 330 metres, saving around four hours of operators’ time every day and leaving staff free to concentrate on more important tasks. It also avoids the need for the plant to be shut down for 1½ hours at a time to allow the physical transfer to take place.

Adam Jamieson Treatment Team Leader says the team were initially a little sceptical of the pump’s ability to deliver. “We had our doubts to begin with but it’s a bit of a success story. It’s fantastic!”

The ability to keep running for 8-10 hours a day means the Manawatū WWTP can now keep pace with the district’s requirements, efficiently handling all the sludge produced.

The pump is protected by fail-safe alerts installed by Manawatū District Council including; a temperature sensor, hopper level sensor and an amp sensor for total peace of mind.

That’s backed by the reliability which has made WANGEN a council favourite around New Zealand. WANGEN pumps use only top-quality highly engineered components delivering a performance that is low-maintenance and almost fault free throughout the long duration of their working lives.
